When looking into a sport that women have come far in, you really need to consider the sport of women’s golf. A lot of women have been very successful in this game and have brought it to the forefront of the sports world.
One of the greats was Juli Inkster, who came into the world of golf in 1983. With 17 starts she had three top ten finishes in her career; she won the World Championship three times, and eight other tournaments. Next is Meg Mallon, who won 18 victories in her career, having joined the LPGA in 1987.
There are others, like Nancy Lopez. She is one of the best out there in bringing a good name to women’s golf. With an amazing 48 victories during her career, Annika Sorenstam is one of the younger golfers who is on the current tour. She has already had 72 victories, so it’s easy to see that Sorenstam is going to be a great name for years to come.
Amy Alcott was first on the tour in 1975; during her career she had 29 victories. Debbie Austin was one of the first to join, in 1968. She only had 7 victories to her name, but was great in helping the tour accept females. Another female golfer on the scene back in the70’s was Pat Bradley, winning 31 times in her career.
Paula Creamer came into professional golf in 2005; she has won 8 times in her career, but is sure to win many more. Yet another great golfer was Karrie Webb, who first appeared on the scene in 1996. She has 35 victories to her name.
As you can see, the list is long and we have only mentioned a few of the females who have paved the way for the newcomers who want to play golf as a professional. Look up the other names and familiarise yourself with them. Thank them when you are able to get onto the tour and play a career in the LPGA.
One thing you need to remember, if you have a young daughter who shows not only an interest in playing golf, but also has the skill, is that you will need to encourage her. Make sure you get her out to the courses and the driving ranges to get the practice she will need to help develop her skills.
It will take a bit of time on the part of parents, but it will be worth it if you help your child to realise a dream later in life. Just imagine turning on the television and seeing your daughter in first place at the LPGA tour. Wouldn’t that be the best? We all want the best for our kids and the way to encourage them is to support them in what they want to do, as long as it doesn’t hurt them. So, if your girl has a skill in the game of golf get her out there, practice with her and make sure not to complain when she beats you.
